As a CPA and a CFO, I’ve worked with many businesses over the past 12 years. I’ve noticed that business owners always try to cut costs in uncertain situations or maneuver during difficult periods. This reaction is a result of poor planning for the future. There are only so many costs a business can cut before it fails. Let me put this in perspective. If the business curbs or negotiates new terms for certain necessary expenses, will it sustain or grow the business in the long run? The answer is “NO”!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Here's what I learned from my experience as a business owner.
Find your purpose, the reason you wake up in the morning, and tie that to your business.Figure out what you are good at and what you are not as early as possible. Once you've done this, delegate tasks that you don't want to or are not good at to experienced individuals. Doing it yourself can cost you more than you think.Get yourself a mentor, coach, or advisor that can give you a complete view of your business and help you take a massive amount of action.

Hi Marie, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I would say that most are unaware the Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) are the “Surgeons for business”! What do I mean by that? CPAs are accountants who have gone through extensive education and experience. They have to pass the Uniform CPA exam (similar to the Bar exam for lawyers or Medical Licensing exam for doctors). They are also required to meet a certain number of continuing education credits (based on their state) to keep their licenses active. As public servants, we are bound to the highest ethical standards!.......CPAs are the “Surgeons for Business” who dissect the business in each of the operating segments and piece together a healthy business that can grow and prosper! And that is exactly what we do at Marie Torossian CPA!
